Hong Kong - sightseeing / Zwiedzanie Hong Kongu

1. The Great Buddha - really big. On the way, one passes by 12 divine generals, each of them armed and representing 2 hours from a day and a sign in Chinese horoscope.

1. Wielki Buddha - rzeczywiście duży. Po drodze mija się dwunastu "boskich generałów", każdy z nich jest uzbrojony i reprezentuje po 2 godziny z dnia i jeden z chińskich znaków zodiaku.

2. HK maybe has a good metro communication (although ferries are cooler), but buying a ticket here isn't always easy. First od all, if one wants to pay with banknotes, one has to find a machine that will accept them. When such a machine is already found, it turns out that it doesn't acceept banknotes other than 10 or 20 dollars. So, one needs to get some change. And, damn it, the machine get enough after eating one piece of paper and from then it wants only metal, so one needs to get some change, again. And then, when everything is ok, it breaks down. With 5th attempt we managed to get the tickets.

2. Hong Kong może i ma dobrą komunikację metrem (chociaż promy są fajniejsze), ale kupienie tu biletu nie zawsze jest proste. Po pierwsze, jak się chce płacić banknotami, trzeba znaleźć maszynę, która banknoty przyjmuje. Kiedy już się taką znajdzie, okazuje się, że nie akceptuje banknotów innych niż 10-cio i 20-to dolarowe. Trzeba więc rozmienić pieniądze. A potem, cholera, automat najada się jednym papierkiem i dalej chce już tylko metal, więc znów trzeba rozmieniać pieniądze. A potem, jak już wszystko jest ok - psuje się. Za 5. podejściem udało nam się zdobyć bilety. 

3. Thay have double-decker trams in HK! Besides that, the island is nice and green.

3. W Hong Kongu mają piętrowe tramwaje! Poza tym, na wyspie jest ładnie i zielono.

4. Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens - plants, birds, monkeys and reptiles.

5. Hong Kong Park - also quite a lot of birds. And lakes with (among others) turtles.

6. A date with Chinese tea - Museum of Tea Ware in Hong Kong Park. A few interesting things:
- museum is disinfected 6 times per day - in Hong Kong, it is quite common to see the information about how often public objects are disinfected, as well as how to prevent spreading of swine flu, SARS etc.;
- Naxi people way of drinking tea - roast tea leaves, pour the water on them, then dilute it (1:1) with white spirit - the name (Dragon-Tiger fight) seems justified. This way of drinking seems nicer than Lisu people's one - tea with oil and salt;
- in British breakfast, tea replaced... beer;
- Hong Kong way of tea drinking ("cultural essence of the East and the West") - almost equal parts of milk tea and coffee - it is supposed to connect the East and the West in a symbolic way: tea (China, Ceylon), milk (Western style of tea drinking) and coffee (Africa);
- 'tea' comes from Chinese (茶 'cha').

6. Randka z chińską herbatą - Muzeum Herbaty w Hong Kong Parku. Ciekawostki:
- muzeum jest dezynfekowane 6 razy dziennie - w Hong Kongu informacje o częstotliwości dezynfekowania obiektów publicznych, jak i o tym, jak zapobiegać rozpowszechnianiu się świńskiej grypy, SARS itp. to dość powszechny widok;
- sposób ludzi Naxi na herbatę: podpiec liście, zalać wodą, wywar rozcieńczyć (1:1) spirytusem - nazwa (walka smoka z tygrysem) wydaje się uzasadniona. Ten sposób picia wydaje się przyjemniejszy niż sposób ludzi Lisu - herbata z olejem i solą;
- herbata wyparła piwo w brytyjskich śniadaniach;
- tutejszy sposób na herbatę ("esencja Wschodu i Zachodu"): prawie po połowie herbaty z mlekiem i kawy, ma to symbolicznie łączyć Wschód z Zachodem: herbata (Chiny, Cejlon), mleko (zachodni sposób picia herbaty), kawa (Afryka);
- w wielu językach (choć nie w polskim) 'herbata' pochodzi z chińskiego (茶 'cha').

We are in Hong Kong! / Jesteśmy w Hong Kongu!

1. Hostel found us itself - a man asked us in the street if we needed a room. He guided us, showed us a room, gave a discount of 150 hk $ (after M's bargaining) and that's how we got a place to stay for few days in HK. Our double room is tiny and has its own bathroom, but apart from the furniture, us and our backpacks, not much can fit here. When it comes to the view from our window - we're afraid to uncover it.

1. Hostel znalazł się sam - zaczepił nas na ulicy pan pytając, czy nie potrzebujemy pokoju. Zaprowadził, pokazał, spuścił 150 hk $ (po targach M) i tak oto mieszkamy przez najbliższe dni w malutkim dwuosobowym pokoiku z własną, całkiem przyjazną, łazienką, ale w którym oprócz wyposażenia, nas i naszych plecaków, niewiele więcej może się zmieścić. Co do widoku z okna, boimy się je odsłaniać.

2. HK is much more international than SH (for U), much more colourful. But there are not many more Europeans here, so we still feel that we are on another continent.

2. Hong Kong jest (jak dla U) dużo bardziej międzynarodowy, dużo bardziej kolorowy. Ale wcale nie ma tu dużo więcej Europejczyków, ciągle więc czuć, że jesteśmy na innym kontynencie.

5. This time M is more happy about food, especially about the fact that Big Mac set is really cheap here.

6. We both are enjoying high temperature and shining sun. Greetings for those who spend winter in Poland (or another countries with cold January :) ).
